Stella’s parents drifted apart after the shock of Abby’s death and were divorced less than a year later. Stella is terrified for her parents’ wellbeing—they already lost one daughter and each other, and Stella knows that she may not have long to live. When Stella undergoes surgery for an infection, Stella’s parents are forced to spend time together. They end up getting back together as they recover from grief and remember that Stella’s wellbeing is their common goal.
