Analysis
Roquentin has breakfast at the Café Mably. There, he learns that Fasquelle has the flu and that his daughter is on her way to look after him. For the first time, Roquentin feels excited to see Anny in Paris. He wonders if he can persuade her to stay at least a night with him in Bouville, imagining that if she did, his fear would go away.
After the fog has dissipated, Roquentin is able to view the world more clearly, and his intense paranoia surrounding Fasquelle has abated. At this point, he has begun to view Anny as the next possible solution to his Nausea and loneliness, even though he initially didn’t really want to meet her in Paris at all.
