In Lauretta’s fourth tale (IV, 3), Restagnone is a nobleman by birth, but his family has fallen into poverty. He plans to enrich himself and run away with his lover, Ninetta, recruiting Folco and Ughetto to join them. In Crete, he falls in love with someone new, inciting Ninetta’s extreme wrath, and he dies at her jealous hands, yet another victim of unlucky love.
