The Bearded Man
A black preacher Saeed meets in Marin, California. The preacher is American, but his wife—who is dead—originally came from Saeed’s country, so he understands a little bit of Saeed’s language and knows about his religious practices. As such, Saeed finds himself drawn to the preacher and even volunteers to work at the shelter the man runs. It is here that Saeed encounters the preacher’s daughter, whom he finds arrestingly beautiful.
