The Green Mile

The Green Mile

by

Stephen King

An old man who sells snacks to prisoners. During execution rehearsals, he plays the role of the condemned prisoners. While most men enjoy Toot’s French accent and humor, Paul sees him as a weaker version of Percy Wetmore, inclined to revel in violence and cruelty. During Bitterbuck’s execution rehearsal, Toot makes everyone laugh by saying vulgar jokes and exaggerating the condemned man’s pain, visibly enjoying making fun of the inmates’ suffering.
