There is a nameless woman that the narrator meets in If on a winter’s night a traveler. All the narrator knows about her is that she is Dr. Marne’s ex-wife and that she has a store where she sells suitcases. The narrator of the story seems to be involved in some sort of espionage or crime involving an exchange of suitcases, and this woman recognizes the narrator’s suitcase, suggesting she may be somehow in on the conspiracy.
